EGRIU FOR ELLICOTT

Buffalo, NY - Emin Eddie Egriu, a candidate for the Ellicott District Council, is taking a stand against the proposed pay raise for members of the Buffalo Common Council. Egriu's firm opposition and commitment to donating the additional salary if elected showcase his dedication to the community's needs. As the Buffalo Common Council prepares to vote on the raise, Egriu's leadership and call for unity among candidates emphasize his commitment to positive change in the Ellicott District.

*Buffalo, NY - May 30, 2023* - Emin Eddie Egriu, a candidate for the Ellicott District Council representing the Democratic Party, has come out strongly against the proposed pay raise for members of the Buffalo Common Council. In a press release issued today, Egriu expressed firm opposition to the suggested increase from $75,000 to $84,472.50.

The statement was made in response to a recent Buffalo News Editorial published on May 28th, which discussed the potential pay raise. Egriu emphasized his unwavering stance against the proposed $10,000 increase and called upon fellow candidates running for the Ellicott District Council to join him in opposing the raise.

The Buffalo Common Council is scheduled to vote on the proposed pay raise on June 27th, coinciding with the Democratic primary. Egriu urged his fellow candidates to publicly express their opposition before this important vote takes place.

Highlighting the recent salary raise in 2019, where the Buffalo Common Council members' pay increased from $52,000 to $75,000, Egriu argued that the current figure is already more than sufficient for the responsibilities associated with the position. Granting an additional pay raise would be unnecessary and unjustifiable in his view.

In a show of commitment to his position, Egriu announced that should the pay raise be enacted into law and if he is elected as the Ellicott District Council member, he would refuse to accept the additional $9,472.50 in salary. Instead, he pledged to donate the entirety of the pay raise each year of his term to community-based organizations within the Ellicott District.

Egriu called upon his opponents in the Democratic primary to make the same pledge, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the needs of the community over personal financial gains. By standing united in this matter, the candidates can work towards fostering positive change and ensuring that the Ellicott District receives the support it deserves.
