PRESS RELEASE
Congressional candidate Eddie Egriu of NY CD- 26, is accusing Congressman Brian Higgins of using legal technicalities to disenfranchise Democratic voters who signed Egriuβs petition to run against Higgins in the Democratic primary election on August 23, 2022.
Higgins has filed two lawsuits to keep Egriu off the ballot and in each case, Higgins is seeking to nullify the signature of any voter who didnβt sign the petition the way Higgins is demanding. The NYS Board of Elections did qualify Egriuβs ballot.
Egriu, a local community activist and builder, said, βBrian is afraid to face the voters with a record of presiding over the decline of Buffalo and Niagara Falls for over 20 years. He disenfranchised hundreds of voters for simply hand printing the petition knowing the handprint is the voter, including many African-Americans because he doesnβt like the way they signed their own names.β
Higgins has hired a local Democratic lawyer, Jerry Schad, who owes this Job as Chair of the Erie County Water Authority to politics, to stop Egriu from getting on the ballot and giving the voters a choice.
Egriu is calling on all Democratic leaders including Governor Hochul and County Chair Zellner to repudiate Higginsβs efforts to disenfranchise qualified Democratic voters, including many minority communities in WNY.
The trial continues before Justice Paul Wojtaszek on Monday, June 27, at 10:30 a.m. It is open to the public and Egriu is asking the media to cover the trial live.
