"Advocate for a fair election takes legal action against fraudulent activity in ballot placement, but expresses no desire to punish the community and wants to move forward for the sake of democracy."
It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the recent legal action I have taken against Leah Halton-Pope's primary ballot placement in the Ellicott district, even though she is the chosen candidate of the status quo, as a passionate advocate for democracy and justice, it deeply saddens me to see the obstacles and injustices that often come with running for public office.
Over the years, I have faced many challenges to my candidacy, and I have seen the same thing happen to many other worthy candidates. The system often finds ways to challenge our petitions, using technicalities and political machinations to silence our voices and silence the voices of the people we seek to represent.
But this is not the kind of democracy that we should be striving for. Every citizen has the right to have their voice heard, and every candidate deserves a fair shot at the ballot box. Making it onto the ballot is not about winning an election, but about having a platform to share our ideas and visions for the future.
As we move forward, let us work together to create a more just and equitable electoral system, one that truly represents the will of the people. Let us stand up against injustice and fight for the values that make our nation great. Together, we can build a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come.
The reasons for our presence here have been documented, recognized, and processed with utmost care and attention.
We cannot deny the existence of fraudulent activities, as evidenced by numerous sworn affidavits, which indicate that many individuals, both living and deceased, have not signed Mrs. Halton Pope's petitions for the Ellicott Common Council ballot.
It is evident that her team's canvassing efforts were conducted improperly, and this illegal activity is a clear act of fraud.
However, we must hold the individual candidate accountable to the people who have actually signed her petition. They deserve to have this candidate represent them as promised.
Democracy should never be undermined, and the status quo should never prevail over the will of the people.
Today, let us strive for change. Let us not perpetuate the machine system.
While the affidavits, witnesses, and sworn testimonies we have accumulated may expose wrongdoings, they may also harm the people. This would not be beneficial to the change we seek. Rather, the people deserve answers, and we should not take that away from them.
If we were driven by selfish motives, we would be no better than the status quo that has existed in the City of Buffalo for decades. As a peacemaker and an advocate of unity, I’m going to let us campaign for the better of our democracy and the people it serves.
